Ugly Betty, a show set in New York, is finally filming in New York. Thanks to some recent changes to the way New York State credits production companies for money spent filming In New York, Ugly Betty has moved east, and spent it’s first shooting day in Dumbo. Thanks to Dumbo NYC for the location info!
According to Ugly Betty’s assistant location manager, Joshua Shull, they had originally wanted to film on New York City park land, but Mayor Bloomberg has put an embargo on filming in waterfront parks until October, due to the throngs of people expected at the waterfront to see the waterfalls exhibits. (Filming In Brooklyn couldn’t help but notice the lack of crowds at the waterfall under the Brooklyn Bridge.)
Luckily, the great people at the State Parks Department were more than happy to help with a waterfront location, which is how the production ended up at Empire Fulton Ferry State Park.
Under the blazing hot sweaty sun, the actors still had to look good – not an easy task in the intense heat! Here are the biker babes getting their costumes all set for filming.
And here they are in all their biker glory.
Filming In Brooklyn was ushered past the paparazzi…
And onto the set, where we were able to get some shots of America Ferrera.
Seriously, it must take a lot of time and work to get her looking frumpy – she’s such a beautiful girl.
Here’s the director watching a scene being shot.
We’re looking forward to Ugly Betty coming back to Brooklyn often!

We took some shots earlier… don’t watch the show, so no idea who these people are. I figured it was some sort of Bike event, looking across the water this morning with my coffee… wasn’t until I saw this post that we went back to actually take a look.

Awesome pictures, Chris! I’m really terrible at matching actors’ pics with their real life names (if I’m not seeing them on TV, in costume, I’m generally clueless), but if I had to guess, I’d say it was Beckie Newton and Michael Urie.

dumbo! anyone who gets suckered in to living in dumbo is a real dumbo. 1, for one thing there is not much to do in that area and it is real scary at night. 2,you dont want to be around there in the winter time with them cold winter winds blowing off the water.brrrrrrrrrrrrr. 3,it is about 4 blocks from the welfare/ projects. everytime i am in that area i see characters panhandling and milling around and they dont look exactly like dumboites. good luck dumbos!
