Rescue Me: The Nicest Bunch Of Guys In Brooklyn

August 1st, 2008 · 5 Comments

It makes me really happy when I see actors go out of their way to welcome fans, and that’s what happened this morning when Rescue Me was filming on location in Greenpoint.

Last night, Filming In Brooklyn reader Tracy contacted me asking if I knew where Rescue Me was filming today, since she was coming in from PA and is a huge fan of the show. I did, and told her I’d look for her there. (Stick around until the end - she helps me get some great pictures of the cast.)

The shoot wasn’t as smoky as I’d hoped, but there was some smoke wafting out of the warehouse that was supposed to be on fire. The scene being shot was a fun one, with the actors coming out of a fire and crowding around an ice cream truck.

First there was a good amount of setting up, with the second team standing in for the main actors. The blond guy is Denis Leary’s stand in.

From half a block away he’s a dead ringer for Mr. Leary.

It was a really hot day, with the sun just beating down relentlessly. I felt really bad for everyone who had to wear firefighter gear.

Here are some extras waiting to be placed in the scene, as people watching the fire.

Taking pictures of scenes being shot for Rescue Me is usually difficult because so many of their on-location scenes are surrounded by big fire trucks, and this location was no exception. But here’s a shot of the main characters crowding around the ice cream truck.

Here’s Denis Leary coming over to take a break in between shots.

Here’s Mike Lombardi Steven Pasquale. (Sorry Steven!)

Eventually Tracy and I found each other and schemed to get closer to the action. But first we had a little laugh over the fact that John Scurti had managed to get some real ice cream from the fake ice cream truck.

An extremely nice woman on the crew overheard Tracy and her friend Maria talking about what they had gone through to get there, and Tracy told her how much she wanted to meet her favorite actor on the show, John Scurti. While the actors were on break, she went over and told Mr. Scurti what was going on, and I’m happy to say that he came right over! He brought us to the group to get some pictures, and they were all incredibly nice, especially considering it was about a thousand degrees and they were trying to relax on their break.

From left to right, that’s Mike Lombardi, John Scurti, Steven Pasquale, Adam Ferrara, and Denis Leary (Daniel Sunjata is behind John Scurti). Thanks for the captioning help Tracy!

Here’s Tracy with the guys:

And here’s Tracy’s best moment:

John Scurti, if you’re reading this, you have no idea how much that meant to Tracy! You’re a good guy.

I’m really glad it all worked out for her. And I owe her a huge thank you, since I probably wouldn’t have gotten such great pictures if she hadn’t been there.

Amy, Thanks, that was a blast to read. I feel so special! John really was such a sweetheart, taking me over to all the guys, & then taking all those pics w/ just him & me. Such a nice guy.
I’m glad we were able to help each other.
By the way, the shot you have labeled Mike Lombardi(walking back from the set) is Steve Pasquale, & in the group photo, you have them reversed.
And actually, my best moment was when he kissed me on the lips!

Thanks Tracy! I am soooo bad at telling who is who, especially with men. This has caused much confusion when I’ve been watching certain movies - especially military ones where the men are all dressed the same - and I’ve completely misunderstood what’s happened. During The Thin Red Line I mistook two completely separate actors for for one character, which caused all sorts of confusion later when one died but somehow was still there!

I’ll fix the captions. And I’m sorry I didn’t get a picture of him kissing you on the lips - it was so unexpected I don’t think I even had my camera on anymore!

I know what you mean. Ahhh, a man in uniform. I only know because I’ve been a rabid fan for all 4 years.
Maria didn’t get a pic either, it was so unexpected! I nearly died when he turned & kissed me! That was the true topper to an amazing experience. It just shows what a sweetheart he is.
I’ve been going through my pics, but we’re heading out, so will try to get them out to you when we get back later today before we head out for the evening.

I’m just so glad that Tracy had this experience of a lifetime. All the getting there and the heat was definitely worth seeing this amazing thing happen; it was definitely a first for me!!!
