So the whirlwind of people and equipment left my house as quickly as they came. They were here a little over four hours, they left everything neater than when they got here, I met some extremely nice people, I got all the access I wanted to take pictures and listen in, and I have a big fat check in my pocket.
I know that my experience probably wasn’t typical. Four hours is a very short day for a location shoot, as far as I know (they’re not done for the day, they’ve just moved on to another location). The cast and crew were very small, about 20 people when everyone was here. And I’m not sure how much me being friends with the producer and the director affected the experience. I probably would have been a lot more apprehensive about things if total strangers were in charge. It also helped that the few good pieces of furniture we have are in storage right now, so I wasn’t worried about things being wrecked. Our floors are relatively new, but they were careful to put blankets down wherever they were putting equipment.
After finishing up in the dining room, they moved on to the living room and shot a scene there.
Attention to detail: if you’re going for a “white trash” look, go for the Pabst.
After the couch scene, everything moved outside to our front stoop.
On the left is Kevin Kaufman, who directed the episode. His production company, Kaufman Films, is producing the show for A&E. On the right is producer Paul McGuire.
My mint-green bathrobe got drafted into a couple of scenes, as did a basket of my laundry (clean, thankfully!).
And then, just minutes after the final “Cut!” they were gone!
A great experience. As soon as I know when the show will air, I’ll let you know.
