Filming In Brooklyn found Unorthodox filming in Park Slope today, on Prospect Park West, and also ran into our resident locations manager, Nathan. I have to tell you, after watching him do his job for about twenty minutes, there’s no amount of money you could pay me to do it for five. If anyone else runs into Nathan on a set, or any other location manager for that matter, buy him a drink and be nice.
So Unorthodox, it turns out, is a Hallmark movie being made for TV. It stars Lauren Ambrose of Six Feet Under fame, Adam Kaufman, Mercedes Ruehl, and Ricki Lake. It’s being filmed today in this beautiful house across from Prospect Park.
The inside is being lit from the outside by some big lights on a cherry picker Condor. [Thanks, Nathan!]
Here are some actors coming outside during a break in filming.
We think that this is Adam Kaufman, but are not positive.
During the breaks some AC was pumped inside.
Here are some more actors on a break.
And this last shot is just for you, Nathan.

Boy you’re quick Amy! Great shots, what a gorgeous house. I LOVE Mercedes Ruehl!!! Glad to see her in something again, too bad I don’t get Hallmark channel.
Love the last shot. How do you like it Nathan?

I’ve been waiting to see how long you’d take to notice us. Granted, we only shot a few days in Brooklyn, but we take up a lot of room, so I figured you’d find us sooner or later. Later as it turned out.
I intend to play the cat and mouse game on the next show too. I’m sure you’re up to the challenge.
It was nice meeting you. If Blogger gets their posting glitch fixed, I’ll post about it. And thanks for the pic of the honeywagon. I just luvs me my honeywagon.

hey Nathan, i remember you telling me it was going to be on CBS when it comes out, no? The day you were shooting at the college, i was the one that was there from 6am till 9 that night. That was a really long day, i dont know how you guys pull it of all the time!

Would that be Danny from I.T.S.?
If so, let me get you off the hook by saying, Danny is not a crazed stalker or over-enthusiastic movie fan. He’s the guy who had to be there two hours ahead of our call time and stay until the last piece of equipment left the building to give us access to the freight elevator which is reached by going through a secured area of the building (a less than brilliant bit of design, if you ask me).
If it’s another Danny, the “crazed stalker and over-enthusiastic movie fan” labels are back on the table.

Yup its me…Was a really long day. I think i’m still off on my sleep! Either way i still find it amazing how you guys come in, turn a place upside down to suit your needs, and then at the end of the day its like you were never here. Kudos to you and all the people that work on set. I did enjoy watching it all happen either way.

Whew Daniel, I was a little worried there! hehehe I don’t know how they pull long days like that either.
Or is it just star struck fans in general? I guess some of us can be a big PITA, but some of us (me, me!) are very well behaved, just ask the crew @ Rescue Me.
So Nathan, you don’t want crazed stalker Amy reporting from FIB there for the duration of your next project?
I do have a fan question: have you met Mercedes Ruehl, & if so, what was she like? Sorry, I’ve loved her forever, & am dying to know.

Crap, you probably won’t answer that because of your job security. I don’t want to post my email address, but Amy has it, if you wouldn’t mind emailing her through the site. I know I’m asking a lot, but worth a shot.

I haven’t met any of the cast on this show. I rarely hang around near camera as my job is really behind the scenes (and I find watching the shoot about as exciting as a…well, really unexciting thing.)
I did, however, meet Mercedes years ago on a movie called Another You. You won’t see any of the part I worked on, because after 6 weeks of shooting in NY, they fired the Director, through away all of the footage, and started all over again with it re-written to take place in Los Angeles.
Yeah, Amazing.

Thanks for answering. I understand being in the biz that it’s all just work & unexciting. Plus as location mgr, you’re not involved w/ ‘the talent’. It was exciting for me to see Rescue Me, but there was more downtime than actual filming, no wonder it costs so much! Pretty boring for everyone involved.
That’s amazing & funny about that movie. What a waste.

Our Grip Best Boy walked up to me this morning and said, “Hey, you’re on that Shooting in Brooklyn blog!”

lololololol You’re famous now. hehehe Doesn’t that make you feel special?
Now you’ll definitely have to keep quiet.
How about that for you Amy? Pretty cool.

Hi,
I was in a flashback scene in Unorthodox playing the star as a boy. I am 11 years old. I had so much fun. Does anyone know when it is going to be on and what channel???
thanks!
13 Tracy Edwards // Sep 22, 2008 at 6:22 pm
Hi Nick. That’s so cool for you, congratulations! Nathan’s blog says it’ll be on in January. Apparently he told Daniel (above) that it’ll be on CBS. Nathan is very tight lipped about his work, especially because the project isn’t even listed on imdb yet, so that’s all the info that we know of so far. I’ll look for you when it airs!

We rarely get shoots in my neck of Washington Heights, but last week the big ass Unorthodox train rolled in. I’ve had trouble getting info until now. Great write up and pictures. Thanks for cracking the code for me.
15 Amy // Sep 30, 2008 at 10:26 pm
Glad we could help!

Does anyone know when this movie is going to air?
21 Amy // Dec 2, 2008 at 9:34 pm
I couldn’t find any information on it, including on the Hallmark Channel site and IMDB.com. I’ll keep my eye out.
