Filming In Brooklyn reader – and frequent tipster/contributor – Carrot had a bird’s eye view last Friday in DUMBO as Law & Order: Criminal Intent filmed an armored car robbery at the corner of Water and Washington Streets.
Here’s the crew setting up a prop ATM machine.
Here they’re putting decals on an armored truck and then in the next picture making it look a little older and weathered.
Blocking and rehearsal so the crew knows where to be with the camera and mic.
Filming some close up shots with a handheld camera.
Then the big crane came out to get some fancy shots (Nathan, I’m counting on you to tell me what that thing is called!).

Sorry Amy. There are a ton of that type of crane available these days. It might be a “Giraffe”, but I couldn’t swear to it. I can tell you that it’s operated from a remote control, a little monitor with wheels to spin that control tilt, pan, zoom, boom, and extending the arm. It’s complicated as hell to run. Think about patting your stomach while having the other hand rub circles on your head while having a third hand draw a picture and a fourth hand bake a pie. Yeah, lots of stuff to do all at once.
