Student Filmmaker Looking For Locations

August 6th, 2009 · 2 Comments

I got an email yesterday from Michael, a filmmaking student at Brooklyn College who is scouting locations.  People have been wary of having a student filmmaker on their property.  My house was used as a location last year, but only because I was getting paid a lot of money.  And I knew the producer, so I felt “safe.”  But everybody has to start somewhere, and Michael is hoping to find a Catholic Church or cemetery to film in.  If you have access to one of these places or advice on where he could try, please email mruizunger@gmail.com.  (Please do not email me, email Michael directly.)

Also, if any of the location scouts who read this blog care to email me some tips or leave them in the comments, I’d love to post about how student filmmakers can get access to locations.

I work at Victorian Gardens, and there are a lot of film students on the promenade of Wollman Rink in Central Park.
Bayswater Point State Park at the end of Mott Ave in Far Rockaway has a breathtaking view of Jamaica Bay and the skyscrapers in the distance.
I’m not sure about cemeteries, though, but those are starts.

Amy, I just emailed your link to a location scout’s blog that I read. I don’t know his name, he stays anonymous, but his site is http://www.scoutingny.com/ Hopefully he’ll help.
