Today was one of those days where I just couldn’t get done everything that needed to be done in a timely matter, so sadly I didn’t get to this in time.  But in case anyone passed by some filming today in the vicinity of S. Portland and Lafayette, it was the FX drama Damages. Thanks so much to Evan for the tip.

It’s Kind of a Funny Story and Boardwalk Empire were also both scheduled to film in Brooklyn today; you can get location information from On Location Vacations.

Frequent tipster Kizz has spotted signs for Damages in the vicinity of Washington Park and Willoughby.  His guess is that the filming location might be a stoop on Carlton near Willoughby that the production has used extensively in the past.  Damages stars Glenn Close, Rose Byrne, and Tate Donovan.

Trucks are parked on DeKalb Avenue along Fort Greene Park.

But on the way home I did notice signs that they’ll be prepping a location somewhere along Lafayette Avenue near Clermont on Tuesday, and are scheduled to shoot on Wednesday and Thursday.

They were still about half an hour away from filming when I arrived this morning.

In the series, Jason Schwartzman plays a Brooklyn writer reeling from a break-up who decides to become a private investigator and live out his Raymond Chandler-esque fantasies. Mr. Schwartzman was filming a scene this morning outside of Smooch on Carlton, which had been made over as “La Galarza Velazquez”.

The set was dressed with more than a dozen strollers, and soon the extras and children showed up on the set.

Even on a beautiful fall day on a sunny, tree-lined street, the sun shining through leaves had to be manufactured.

Mr. Schwartzman arrived on the set, and hung out while the final preparations were being made to start filming (in the first picture, he’s chatting with director Alan Taylor). UPDATE: In the second picture, to Jason Schwartzman’s left is Zach Galifianakis, who has a long conversation with Jason in the scene about to be shot; thanks to Klaus for the info!  ANOTHER UPDATE: And in that same picture, on Schwartzman’s right, is series writer and producer Jonathan Ames.  Thanks, Jenny!

He had a final conversation with Jason Schwartzman and then shooting got underway.

Taking a break while the lights and cameras were being set up to shoot from a different angle, Ms. Close had a sandwich and played with some dogs (hers? I have no idea), and Mr. Hurt relaxed and chatted, while I was, sadly, kept at a distance from one of my favorite actresses of all time.  But I wouldn’t want to be bothered while eating a sandwich either.

This is at least the third time that Damages has filmed in the DeKalb/Fort Greene Park area in the past couple of months, and I hope they’ll be back again soon.  I dream about getting to chat with Glenn Close for a few minutes, to pick her brain about her incredible career.

Filming In Brooklyn missed seeing the HBO series Flight of the Conchords filming on Vanderbilt in Fort Greene today (it was an indoor shoot), but we did get to chat briefly with Kristen Schaal as the crew was packing up to leave. Even if you don’t watch Conchords you may recognize the hilarious Kristen from The Daily Show.

Kristen told us that about half of Conchords films in Brooklyn, and that she really likes filming here.  I asked her if anyone seems annoyed at the trucks and disruption, and she reported that she hasn’t seen a single annoyed face yet.

Look for Flight of the Conchords on HBO.  Thanks for taking the time Kristen, and we’ll see you around Brooklyn!

The Real World: Brooklyn was spotted working out again, this time at a Crunch Gym in Fort Greene.

It never ceases to amaze me how many people will read a post about something they claim they don’t care about, and then click on the post to leave a comment stating that they don’t care about it. Which is exactly what happened on Curbed on Friday.

It reminds me of that old quote from Yogi Berra: “Nobody goes there no more, it’s too crowded.”

Commenter Nails The Real World Complainers [Filming In Brooklyn]

UPDATE: We got to the park around four, and made a loop around the entire park, but didn’t see any signs of filming. Then we ran into a Park employee who told us that they were wrapped up and gone before 1pm.

Rescue Me will be shooting inside a gym on Front Street near Main, in Dumbo.

Lipstick Jungle will be filming in the evening on Engert Avenue near Humboldt, in Greenpoint. This looks to be an interesting shoot: rumor has it there will be trick-or-treating kids!

Something called D-Con will be filming inside 470 Flushing Ave in…Clinton Hill? Not sure exactly where the border is. We have to assume that it’s a commercial for the mouse poison, and not some new rapper.

And last, Metaphor-Free Radio (?) will be filming in Canarsie Cemetary.

A documentary about autism called Loving Lampposts is doing interviews in Prospect Park, at the Imagination Playground.

Something called The Archive is filming today all over Brooklyn, in Fort Greene, Clinton Hill, and Red Hook. They’re kind of roving, but some possible locations include Greene and Adelphi, Washington and Willoughby, Fulton and South Elliot, Conover and Coffey, and Van Dyke and Van Brunt.

The Tested is filming at a liquor store on 23rd Avenue near 85th street (is that Windsor Terrace?).

Language and Learning is filming on Fourth Avenue near Union Street (is that still Park Slope? I’m having neighborhood dyslexia today), and also at Old Fulton Street near Water Street in Dumbo.

A movie called Heterosexuals will be filming tonight at The Rabbit Hole, 352 Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg.

And last, Have You Slept With Me is filming at 540 Metropolitan Avenue, also in Williamsburg.

Here’s Rose Byrne getting ready to film a scene (she’s sitting at the table by the wall; Timothy Olyphant is behind the sound guy).

The scene was long-ish, but I couldn’t hear any of the dialogue.

After the cast and crew broke for lunch, I approached Timothy Olyphant and asked him if I could get a picture. He insisted that I be in it with him, and I was very upfront with him, telling him it was for this site and that I’d rather not be in it (I’ve been through this before). He joked around with me for a minute and then told me (in a very nice way) that he’d only do the picture if I was in it and promised not to crop myself out. So of course I said yes, and you can see the picture here. He was extremely pleasant about the whole thing. And frankly, I wouldn’t have blamed him if he had not been pleasant, seeing as he had to wear a long-sleeved sweater in 90-degree weather.

They’ve been around that corner all day. Did anyone else manage to get any pictures? Was Glenn Close on the scene at all?

Also shooting today and tomorrow (thanks again, On Location Vacations!) is the new series Cupid, a “reworking” of the Rob Thomas series from a few years ago. They’re shooting in and around Woodhull Hospital on Broadway near Flushing in Bedford-Stuyvesant. It’s a closed set inside the hospital, but again, we’re hopeful for tomorrow.

Looks like they might be getting set for some nighttime stuff outside of the hospital as well:

Last, we stopped by Damages shooting at Cleremont and DeKalb in Fort Greene and got some good pictures of the great Timothy Olyphant, which we will post very soon.

So far, the only thing we know of is I Hate Valentine’s Day filming tomorrow (Thursday) on Dekalb Avenue in Fort Greene, next to/in Fort Greene Park.

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Brooklyn’s Finest was the first movie script ever written by Staten Island toll booth collector Michael Martin.

With the director and star of Training Day teaming up for another cop movie, Filming In Brooklyn is really looking forward to this film’s 2009 release.
